EAST COAST EAGLES
Tryouts for 08 - 09

Play Up Policy

The East Coast Eagles strongly recommend that players tryout for and play at their natural age level.   This is the best option for player development in most cases.   There are, however, some instances where a player's skill level far exceeds that of most players at their age level.   For this reason the East Coast Eagles allow 2nd year players (e.g. a 2nd year Squirt, Peewee, or Bantam) to tryout for teams at the next level.   The number of "play up" players is limited for each team.   For 20-player teams (Bantam and Midget) this is limited to 5 players.   For 17-player teams (Squirt & Peewee) this is limited to 3 players.

Decisions regarding the selection of "play up" players will be at the sole discretion of the East Coast Eagles' coaching and evaluation staff and be based on what is felt to be in the best interest of that player's development. Decisions will take in to account a player's skill level, size and maturity.

Players wishing to tryout for a team at the next level are strongly encouraged to register and tryout at their natural age level, as well as the next level.   Players must participate in the tryouts for any team for which they are being considered.   This is necessary in order for the coaching staff to fairly evaluate all players trying out for a particular team.   If a player registers only at the "play up" level and is not selected for that team, they are not guaranteed a spot on their natural age team.   Players trying out a both levels are required to register and pay the tryout fees for both tryout sessions.

RULES:

  • Tryout Attendance
Players are required to attend all tryout sessions.   Exceptions are granted on a very limited basis and only under certain circumstances.   Requests for an exception must be submitted in writing to the East Coast Eagles and approved prior to the first tryout session.   Requests should be submitted via email to president@eceagles.com and must include details as to why a player is unable to attend all tryout sessions.
  • Equipment
All players must have full equipment including mouth and neck guards. Players without full equipment will not be allowed on the ice. Returning East Coast Eagles players should refrain from wearing East Coast Eagles practice jerseys.
  • The Day of the Tryout
Please refrain from speaking with the East Coast Eagles coaching staff during the tryout sessions. Any questions or comments should be directed to a member of the East Coast Eagles administrative staff, which will be on-site throughout the tryouts.

Players should be ready to take the ice a minimum of 15 minutes prior to their scheduled time. Players and parents are required to check in at the East Coast Eagles desk prior to taking the ice for each of the tryout sessions. Each day the player will be issued a practice penny with a number on it for identification. The penny is to be returned immediately after each session ends.
