Head Coach Stonefield

Coach Scott grew up playing hockey south of Boston, at his highest level he played two years for the University of Illinois, ACHA Division II. Coach Scott has been coaching youth hockey since 1998 and is a certified USA Level IV coach. He has coached for the East Coast Eagles with Coach Andrew Barron for the past 5 years at the Squirt, Peewee, and Bantam levels. True to his love of the game, he continues to play in adult leagues in Raleigh.

Squirt Head Coach: Mike Housman

Coach Housman Eagles Coach Mike Housman will be leading the Squirt AA team again this season. With 7 years of coaching experience behind him and a Level IV certification, Coach Housman is a professional coach that uses multiple techniques in order to develop and continue to motivate players to reach their full potential.

Coach Housman has a large focus on skating at the Squirt level. All skills in hockey need a strong skating foundation and what better age to refine your technique then at the Squirt level. Using creative and fun skating drills, coach Housman strives to make skating drills fun, not punishment. Proper skating technique helps players to fully develop their other skills quicker with a solid skating base.

Coach Housman also believes in creating a bond with his players off the ice. Taking the time to get to know the players off the ice goes a long way towards a successful and enjoyable season for the kids. Living by the motto,"people don't care how much you know until they know how much you care" Coach Housman's coaching style helps get the best out of every kid. In the end hockey needs to be and enjoyable experience and when there is a good coach/player relationship, kids enjoy coming to practice and games not only because they get on the ice, but because they enjoy the team atmosphere as well.

Coach Housman draws from his experiences in coaching competitive travel hockey over the last 7 years. From Midget AA teams to learn to play hockey, coach Housman has spent years refining his coaching technique so that all players are able to reach their full potential. A part owner of Quick Release Hockey Academy and former instructor of California Dreamin' Hockey School and Weekend Warriors Hockey Academy, Coach Housman has taken something from every coach he has worked with in order to help your child not only develop as a player, but also enjoy coming to the rink every day.

Peewee Head Coach: Kevin Morgan

Head Coach Morgan

No one is better equipped to develop and challenge the East Coast Eagles Peewee team than Kevin Morgan. With 29 years of coaching experience, this coach has played a role in the development of many players over the years that have gone on to play prep school, Junior, college and professional hockey including Ken Klee, a one time player for Morgan and now an NHL defenseman for the Atlanta Thrashers.
Born and raised in Toronto, Canada, Morgan played youth/amateur hockey in Toronto and the southern Ontario area for a variety of programs. His college career landed him at Division II Brockport State. He wrapped up his competitive professional playing career in 1975 with the Kansas City Knights.

Morgan's many coaching highlights include a USA Hockey Tier II National Championship appearance, a USA Hockey Central District Championship, four USA Hockey Regional Qualifying Tournament Championships and a variety of AAA and AA International Tournament Championships. In 1983, Morgan's team was the only team to defeat Team Finland (Turku AAA) during its North American Tour. He has a Minnesota Silver Stick Championship to his credit and five consecutive MAHL Championships. Last season he led our Squirts to a AAA Championship and a AA Silver Stick Regional Championship while compiling a 41-8-8 season record.

"Success is oftentimes measured in wins and losses, but I don't believe this is the key element in measuring success," says Morgan, whose coaching philosophy includes sportsmanship first, adopting the team concept, working hard, having fun and striving to reach potential. "The improvement that a team realizes over the course of a season is a much more rewarding measurement of success than any statistic."

Morgan has certainly experienced the "highs" of a winning coaching career. We're confident that he will continue to instill in our very own East Coast Eagles that same "can do" attitude and the same drive for success that has fostered champions on and off the ice for the past 29 years.

Coaches Dave Trevor and Nick Sabo will be assisting Coach Morgan this season. Coach Trevor returns for his 5th season with the Eagles and will focus on offense. Coach Sabo joins the Eagles this season and will focus on defense.

Throughout his coaching career, Coach Housman has worked along side some of the most prominent skating coaches out there today. He also attended the 2004 International Power Skating Symposium where he worked with not only the brightest minds in skating, but also strength and conditioning coaches. Strong skating fundamentals and speed is key in all aspects of the game of hockey and are the building block for all skills in the game.

With Bantams, it is also the goal of Coach Housman to help his players learn to think the game of hockey. He believes in teaching his players not only where to be, but why. Developing students of the game helps kids develop better hockey sense and adapt to multiple in-game situations on the fly. All successful teams need the ability to adapt and a thorough understanding of systems and finer points of the game is essential to becoming a complete player.
