Eagles Soar in Tournament

01 September 2008

Eagles AA - 14 Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Huskies - 0
Eagles AA - 11 Hampton Roads Whalers AA - 1
Eagles AA - 6 Charlotte Checkers AA - 2
Eagles AA - 7 Peninsula Prowl AA - 1
Eagles AA - 4 (Gold) Charlotte Checkers AA - 1 (Silver)

Goto the Squirt page to see photos from this weekend.

The East Coast Eagles traveled to Chesapeake, Va for the first tournament of the year. The only thing the boys had on their minds...Gold!

On the first day of the tournament the Eagles faced-off with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Huskies. The Eagles took an early lead and never looked back. Eagles game leading scorer, Justin Hall had four goals in the 14-0 win.

On day two of the tourney, the Eagles had to wait until 3:50 to face their first opponent. That opponent was the home team, Hampton Roads Whalers. The game was well in hand when Justin Hall again led the Eagles with four goals in a 11-1 victory.

The third day saw the Eagles playing 3 games including the championship. The first game was a 6:40am start which saw the Eagles fall behind a strong Charlotte Checkers team 2-0. Then the Eagles started to fly and fly together. They were led by Matthew Doudnikoff, who notched three goals, and Justin Hall, who had 2 goals. Ryan Grahm played a strong game and saw many flurries, but managed to turn the Checkers away. The Eagles were victorious 6-2.

Next on the list for the Eagles on Day 3, were the Peninsula Prowl. The Prowl came out fighting, but the Eagles were just to much in the end. With solid goal tending by Josh Sousa and the games leading scorers Brendin Russell and Christian Barker, the Eagles soared to a 7-1 win and went through the tournament without a hiccup.

Undefeated in Tournament play, the Eagles seem to be FLYING through the competition with relative ease. The Eagles captured the gold medal by beating the very quick and very strong Charlotte Checker AA team 4-1. The scoring came from four different Eagles. Matthew Doudnikoff, Matthew Cwikla, Sean Traynor and the nicest goal of the tournament, Skyler Hendriks.

Everyone played very well this weekend. The defense was solid, the goal tending was solid and the goals came from every forward on the team. It is nice to see the development from last year to this year. This will be a team to beat, if they keep working hard and continue to play for each other.

ECE Junior Hockey Needs Host Families

The East Coast Eagles Junior Hockey organization is currently accepting applications for Host Families for the 2008-2009 Season. If you are interested in providing a "home away from home" to an Eagles Junior Hockey player, please see this article. The families who open their homes to Eagles players are an integral part of the success of the team, and it can be a rewarding experience for both the player and his host family.

Summer Skills Sessions

The hockey jamboree in Charlotte that we included in this summer’s program has been cancelled due to low enrollments around the state. In lieu of that program feature we have gone ahead and secured additional ice and coaching to carry the program another two weeks. On the attached schedule you will see we’ve added July 30, July 31, Aug 6, and Aug 7.

Here is the revised schedule.

During this camp, students will improve their control, agility, reflex, technique, edge, and muscle retention skills. Team Carolina and ECE Form Partnership to Promote Tier I Hockey in The Carolinas!

The East Coast Eagles are excited to announce the formation of a partnership with Team Carolina to further the development of Tier I hockey in the Carolinas.

In keeping with the true spirit of a partnership, Team Carolina and the East Coast Eagles intend to maintain their respective identities. With that said, the new offering will be named the Carolina Eagles. The teams’ logos will be a blend of the Team Carolina and East Coast Eagles logos.

With this newly formed partnership, we will encourage upper level players to consider the Carolina Eagles, with the overall goal of developing players for future collegiate or Junior playing opportunities. In addition, the Carolina Eagles will introduce a choice of Tier I hockey offerings in the marketplace.

In the 2008-09 season, the Carolina Eagles plan on fielding teams at the Peewee and Bantam levels. This partnership will give our Peewee team a berth to the Tier I USA Hockey National Championships, as Team Carolina is the host organization. Our Bantams will be National bound as well.

The East Coast Eagles have absolutely no plans to abandon our position at the Tier II AA level. In fact, we firmly believe the Carolina Eagles organization will strengthen our Tier II AA position in the market. Look for our 2008-09 season announcement immediately after the current season closes.

Additional information is available on the Carolina Eagles website at www.carolinaeagles.org

ECE Squirts Capture Championship Banner in Pittsburgh

The East Coast Eagles Squirts went into Pittsburgh with high hopes of bringing home some hardware for the Eagles. With convincing wins over the Cleveland Heights Tigers and Delaware Jr. Blue Hens, the Eagles lost a hard fought game to the Markham Waxers from Ontario Cannada 3-1. Needing a win over the Montgomery Blue Devils, the Eagles played their best game to date this season with a very strong 4-0 win over the Blue Devils to advance to the championship game and get a little revenge on the Waxers. Behind tournament MVP goaltender Joseph Marceno and great team defense the Eagles were able to win a very physical championship game 3-1 and take home their first tournament win of the season. Congratulations to these young Eagles and their coaches. Good luck in Atlantic City in their final tournament of the season.

East Coast Eagles Players Give Back to our Community

The East Coast Eagles are pleased to announce that they have put the finishing touches on the East Coast Eagles Community Give-Back programs! The East Coast Eagles will "adopt" a total of five families for the holiday season. T'is the season to be giving, and that is what our ECE Teams do every year. We try to bring joy, love, and comfort to a family less fortunate than ours. This year our individual teams will each sponsor a family who is in need of some holiday cheer. We have chosen five families with the help of Wake County Social Services and their Holiday Cheer Program. The Squirt, Peewee, Bantam, Junior Minor, and Junior Major teams are proud to be a part of this worthwhile cause.

The East Coast Eagles and North Carolina State Hockey Form Affiliation!

With the newly formed affiliation, ECE players will have access to NCSU players and staff for mentoring, coaching and North Carolina State University campus tours. We plan to further our affiliation by providing NCSU players with the opportunity to coach ECE players in specialized situations. In NCSU standout Goalie Will White has already been assisting with our Junior Minor team and, former NCSU Goalie Coach Mark McElligott is helping our youth goalies sharpen their games.

NCSU players will also assist with ECE special events, tryouts and our Junior Showcase to name a few. East Coast Eagles General Manager, Gary Gouin commented that this partnership will provide ECE players with the opportunity to continue their playing careers at the collegiate level while providing NCSU with a fertile ground for recruiting the areas top players.

The Junior Hockey schedule can be found on the East Coast Eagles Junior web site. Look for NCSU players at our home games and lets show our support for NCSU at their home games. The NCSU schedule can be viewed www.ncsuhockey.org.
